Tired of Litter Bugs? Drones May Be The Solution to This Problem As Well
Tired of seeing garbage on the street all the time? The city of Dubai may have a new innovative answer using drones to monitor the litter bugs and catch them red handed.
This is not as large a leap as some of us in North America may think as Dubai already uses cameras on drones to monitor landfill’s. These are allowed to operate under the stipulation that they must be kept below 30m.
Moving forward the city of Dubai plans to use drones to begin monitoring the city’s deserts and beaches. They hope this will help them catch people littering in these areas and, in time, help deter people from doing so.
Abdul Majeed Al Saifaie, director of the waste management department had this to say about the project. “Since they are very cost effective, we expect to have two more drones later this year, which will carry out inspections across deserts and beaches,”.
The thought is that using drones will save the department time and money as staff will no longer need to drive around and manually watch for litter bugs. A single drone in the sky can easily cover an area that multiple people would be needed for at the cost of less than one persons salary.
“The main beneficial factor is the amount of time these drones can save. Instead of having municipality inspectors driving across the city, the drones will be able to fly directly to a number of different locations within a short time, and provide us with data and high-resolution photographs,” said Al Saifaie.
