Check out the stylish new FLYBi
The most recent entry to the VR Drone market is a sleek stylish entry called FLYBi
The FLYBi attempts to take the whole experience package and put it in a nice neat little carrying case. The entire design of it has been catered to the casual user. The wrist controls are simple with lots of stability. This makes it ideal for the casual user and people new to the drone market however the more experienced user may find it odd to adjust to.
The FLYBi also boasts head tracking FPV goggles which connect to a 12MP camera with 1080p video on a gimbal. The gimbal tracks the movement of the head with a gyroscope. This is meant to take away the difficulty of controlling the camera and make it much more intuitive.
The styling does bring to mind apple with the white plastic and choice of colour. Another aspect that reminds me of Apple is FLYBi’s design choices to make it convenient. The carrying case for the drone doubles as a launch pad and automated battery changer and a charger for the drone.
If they manage to get the funding to bring this project to fruition there are some things I really like about it. The design with the case and the battery changing is lovely if they can make it reliable. The head tracking, while not totally original, does seem to be smooth by the video but only time will tell. This drone looks very aesthetic but I can not foresee it ever being any more wide spread than a rich guys new toy.
